The oldest housing in Whitefield is its Victorian terraces, such as those around Lily Hill Street and Nipper Lane, along with the older houses in Besses o' th' Barn. Roofs of that age are typically slate, with brick chimney stacks and lead flashing that have been in place for a very long time.
Much of the rest of the town came later. The Elms estate was built between the 1920s and the 1950s and the Hillock estate followed in the 1950s, while the larger houses sit around Ringley Road and Park Lane. Homes from those years generally have tiled roofs, mortar-bedded ridges and timber roofline. We work on all of them.
We are based at 7a Elms Street in Whitefield, so Stand, Besses o' th' Barn, Unsworth, Prestwich and Radcliffe are all a short drive.

Whitefield grew in stages, from Victorian terraces to the estates of the twentieth century, and each kind of house tends to have its own roof faults. These are the jobs our roofers are called to most often across Stand, Besses o' th' Barn, Lily Hill, Hillock, Park Lane and Kirkhams.
The older terraces in Whitefield, such as those around Lily Hill Street, were typically roofed in slate well over a hundred years ago. The fixing nails rust through long before the slate wears out, so slates drop out of line one at a time. They can usually be re-fixed or replaced without stripping the roof. See our slate roofing.
Brick chimney stacks on older Whitefield houses stand above the roofline and take the wind and rain first. Mortar joints open up and the lead where the stack meets the roof lifts, and the water shows as a damp patch on the chimney breast. See our chimney repairs and lead flashing repairs.
On the tiled roofs of the town's inter-war and post-war houses, the ridge tiles and roof edges were bedded in mortar. After decades of frost that mortar cracks and falls away, and loose tiles can lift in a strong wind. See our ridge tile repairs and dry verge systems.
Plenty of semis in Whitefield have a bay with its own small flat or lead-covered roof. When the covering splits or the joint with the wall opens up, the first sign is usually a brown stain on the ceiling just inside the window. See our bay window roof repairs.
Garages, kitchen extensions and dormers added to Whitefield homes over the years are often covered in felt that is now past its best. Some only need a patch or new edge trims; others are better re-covered. See our flat roofing.
Gutters on tree-lined roads fill with leaves and moss every autumn. Once they overflow, water runs down the timber fascia boards behind them, and a few wet winters are enough to start the rot. See our gutter repairs and gutter cleaning.
